Do I need grub2-efi or does grub2 from core/community work well enough? The how to explains using the 'Apple bootloader'. Do i need a separate 'EFI System' partition? If so what folder structure should it have and on which mount point should it be mounted? Does it need to be fat32? I read the wiki pages on EFI, grub2 and this how-to, but some things are not clear to me: Also the same page states that the TRIM feature in the kernel is not available in IDE mode.
I suspect the SATA running in IDE mode on the MBP is the cause, and this wiki entry suggests that under grub2 AHCI can be forced. I also ran fdisk on the ISOs to compare with the Debian ISO (may or may not be useful): $ fdisk ĭisk: geometry: 686/64/63 I know that PureOS is a derivative of Debian, so this has left me somewhat confused. Just for comparison, I downloaded the Debain 9 live install ISO ( debian-9.3.0-amd64-netinst.iso), and performed the same flashing process as listed above, and the older Mac successfully picked it up on boot. I expected to see a external media icon labelled EFI. Inserted the USB into the older Mac specified above whilst it was off, then turned it on (with the Options key pressed), no PureOS boot option available.Flashed the ISO onto a 4GB USB using Etcher (on another Mac of mine).Downloaded from and checked the hash.
PureOS ( ) doesn’t appear in the boot ‘drive’ choices when I restart my Mac, so I can’t boot from the ISO and run the installer. I essentially want to give PureOS a go and buy a Librem PC if it works out.
